I try to go on ebay to see what's going on with Rumph, and recently have seen two tankards that are VERY similar to Rumph. However, neither of them are Rumph, instead they are marked "Grumpy". Who is Grumpy? And why would they make almost identical tankards? Just wondering...

wondered about this as well, the guy selling them on ebay is marketing them as "Rumph" even though there is absolutely no indication that it is a rumph piece. they appear to be simple knock-offs meant to deceive the inattentive.

They are knock-offs and seem to sell better than their Rumph equivalents because they are pretty rare.

Rumpy was made and distributed during the 70's to compete with Rumph. They were sold at lower end 5 & dimes. I do not know who made them but you can bet money they were not made by Rumph. I will never forget my first incounter with Rumph pottery in the 70's, I was blown away, I wish I would have gotten everything I saw. But they were not that cheap! Rumpy was an alternative to the "high end" Rumph. I think that they Rumph was sold at Foley's in Houston and Rumpys were sold at JC Pennys and K-Mart, Target..........
